In 2026 a 22 kW whole-home set carrying one air conditioner typically runs $11,500 to $16,800 installed, and a 26 kW set for two air conditioners runs $16,500 to $24,000. A 14 kW essential-circuits install starts around $7,800. Propane tanks and gas utility coordination are added on top.
Size from the air conditioning, not the square footage. A 4-ton compressor draws 24 to 30 amps running and five to eight times that on start, so a 22 kW set is at its limit with one 4-ton AC. Two ACs generally means 26 kW or more, unless a soft-start retrofit brings the inrush down enough to keep a smaller set.
Yes. The install needs an electrical permit and, for gas work, a gas permit from the city or county AHJ, plus parallel-source notification to APS or SRP before the set can be energized. We pull the permits, meet the inspector and handle the utility paperwork as part of the job.
Three to six weeks is typical from signed estimate to commissioned set, driven mostly by generator availability and fuel work. Propane tank placement adds one to two weeks; a natural gas regulator with utility coordination adds one to three. Large liquid-cooled sets can run six to ten weeks.
